Culturally Inclusive Celebrations Community Outreach prison yard concerts, lectures, and performances foster cultural awareness and prompt a re-examination of history and values. The T.R.U.S.T. Cultural Equation states that History + Culture = Values. We believe that values determine lifestyle and behavior. Cultural events help us to respect and value the story and culture of others. They also help us to reflect on our own culture, and explore how culture affects the individual and how the individual may in turn influence culture.

Other outreach and bonding programs include Hitland Ministries’ production of the play, ”The Grave Robbers,” and its Annual Hot Dog Give-a-ways, held to create a spirit of community and brotherhood among the men in prison. We also hold occasional fellowship activities, such as softball and basketball games, with other Community Partnership Programs.

Fundraisers Fundraisers (food sales and walk-a-thons) not only provide alternative healthy food choices to the inmate population, but they also provide the T.R.U.S.T. with the ability to donate to charitable organizations, the Inmate Welfare Fund, and a Victims’ Fund. These fundraisers allow the T.R.U.S.T. to in turn support and participate in community activities such as at-risk youth intervention and expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged school children in the greater Bay Area.

Awards & Presentations The T.R.U.S.T. holds annual awards presentations for both inside and outside community members. Awards presentations provide acknowledgement to those individuals and organizations that contribute to the cause of community building through the development of incarcerated men. These presentations also serve to strengthen the bond between the T.R.U.S.T. and its partners, and encourage the continuation of community service.

Health Fairs The T.R.U.S.T. believes that violence is a public health issue, and that individual health consciousness is essential to a healthy family and community.  Thus, the T.R.U.S.T., in conjunction with Alameda County Public Health  Department, holds an annual Health Fair for the general inmate population. The Health Fair stimulates awareness of the correlation between a healthy body and  a healthy mind. It provides health education, free screening and testing to inmates, as well as consultations with a variety of health providers.  It also encourages education and motivation for each inmate to enhance his personal accountability and responsibility to his own health and the health of his family and community.
