Fernando Lemus
Why did you join the T.R.U.S.T.?
I was asked by Ansar and Abraham to join, so I did.
What does being a T.R.U.S.T. Fellow mean to you?
It means sharing my experience with other inmates on how to purge the beliefs that got me into prison. And hopefully turning the life of someone wanting to change his life for the better.
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
My hobbies are playing sports, e.g. baseball, volleyball, basketball and soccer; reading five novels per year; and graphic design. Books completed are: Edgewater Angels by Sandro Meallet and What is the What by Dave Eggers. Books to finish reading: The Heartless Stone by Tom Zoellner; An Enormous Crime: The Definitive Account of American POWs Abandoned in Southeast Asia by former U.S. Rep. Bill Hendon, R-NC, and Elizabeth A. Stewart.
What programs are you involved with other than the T.R.U.S.T.?
Graduated from V.O.E.G; Non-Violent Communication; Attending I.M.P.A.C.T.; No MOre Tears; New Leaf on Life; Graduated from Patten University 2007 with A.A. Degree; Veterans’ Issues Group; Hatha Yoga; Buddhism
What kind of work do you do with the inside and/or outside communities?
Fundraising to award a $1500 scholarship to a deserving student going to college; highlighting administration and inmates working together towards this effort.
How do you live up to the T.R.U.S.T. value system? How do you promote the ideals of the T.R.U.S.T. outside the workshops?
During the purging process of getting rid of destructive behavior and values, I live a lifestyle that promotes the TRUST value system by not getting involved with people selling drugs, cell phones, and any disruptive behavior in this prison environment.
What do you want to do after you parole?
I want to get off parole so that I do not have any ties with the CDCR, then continue to be an asset to my community instad of a bad liability.
What are your long-term goals?
They are to go back to Latin America and do some traveling in Asia/Pacific regions.
Personal message to the outside community:
Members of the TRUST would like to have your trust back and are willing to work hard to obtain that trust. thus, we may be able to work together in working to end the violence in our communities.
