Graduation

2018 T.R.U.S.T. Graduates

A formal graduation ceremony is held annually to recognize those participants, across all of the T.R.U.S.T. programs, who have successfully completed the requirements for attendance and homework assignments.

The evening includes presentation of certificates and recognition of key contributors to the programs. Keynote speakers, who are usually formerly incarcerated T.R.U.S.T. Fellows, are invited by the current Fellows. These men have been released from San Quentin and are successfully engaged in productive lives in the community. After the ceremony, Fellows and participants have the opportunity to mingle.

The Fellows, graduates, volunteers, and many of the outside facilitators of the workshops enjoy a banquet and live music together.

"One of the joyful moments for me during the graduation was seeing the eyes of the graduates, some who have never graduated from anything. One graduate in particular, who is 66 years old, approached me and said,  'I don't feel comfortable going up on stage to get my Certificate of Completion'. I told him that he must go up there because he was worthy to be celebrated for his accomplishment. After the graduation, he came up to me with a big GLEE smile, which signified his sense of self-worth and pride in his accomplishment. For me, it's moments like this that makes the work we do all worthwhile."
